Pastor’s Postcard – Sun and Shade

Sunday August 18, 2024

You may recall the lyrics of a song by Johnny Cash, “That happy old sun has nothing to do but roll around heaven all day.”  That sunshine will bring a happy face to us as we harness its energy by installing solar panels.  The projected savings to our parish over the next thirty years is around one million dollars.  Our solar project is an expression of our efforts to be good stewards.  The savings in electricity will help us more adequately compensate our staff and teachers.  However, there is a cost now for installation.  Please give generously to our Pastoral Services Appeal.  Every dollar above our goal will be returned to the parish and help fund our solar project.

Many people are experiencing the effects of a heat wave this summer.  We are grateful for our refreshing sea breezes.  Nonetheless, we decided to provide a space in our courtyard that is cooler and more comfortable.  I’m sure you have seen the shade sails that were recently installed between Stoneman Hall and the Parish Offices. The purchase and installation are affordable because we are doing it ourselves (DIY).  Todd Thompson and Ree Taylor, members of our own staff, designed, custom ordered and fastened the sails.  Our desire to create a more comfortable gathering space after our liturgies is an expression of our efforts to be a welcoming community in all that we do.  Hospitality is a theme surfaced by our Parish Pastoral Council that expresses our aspiration to be an evangelizing community.  Stay cool!

In Christ,

Rev. Robert P. Capone
