November and Thanksgiving
Looking back at the month of November, there is much to be grateful for. We celebrated a Healing Mass, gathered for a parish retreat and prayed with the Missionary Image of Guadalupe. I saw many of us moved to tears, filled with consolation and joy of the Holy Spirit. This Sunday we are giving others something to be thankful for: a turkey dinner for our neighbors who are experiencing hunger and homelessness. However, I feel a need to express my disappointment over our First Fruits E-Giving campaign. Our parish Stewardship Committee asked each of us to consider making our Sunday Offering through Faith Direct. Enrolling is easy, secure and allows us to be intentional about making sure we give God the first fruits and not what is left over at the end of the week or month. Our goal was to reach an enrollment of 700 from the 100 we started with. Only thirty people enrolled during our campaign. The QR code is listed on this page, or enroll at Home – Saint Joachim Catholic Church – Faith Direct. I hope more members of our parish will adopt a stewardship way of life by enrolling in Faith Direct. A Christian Steward receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them responsibly, shares them in justice and love, and returns them with increase to the Lord. Give God the First Fruits! Feel the joy that comes from thanking God for our many blessings and sharing them this Thanksgiving season.
In Christ,
Rev. Robert P. Capone
