Father Robert is getting to know our parish families…Meet the Casillas Family

How long have you been in the parish and what do you like, value, about it?

We have been regular parishioners at St. Joachim for about 24 years. There is a sense of belonging like being a part of the Body of Christ. We have had the blessing of volunteering in different capacities through the Church to help God’s people as that has been an absolute joy. What we love about this community is that it is very loving and inviting. What brings value for us is the serving the broken in the community which is evident in being done at St. Joachim. St. Joachim is a community of believers that are very tight with one another and would help one another, a trait Jesus taught us. The values here are to unite together and get things done. Even despite some turmoil at times at St. Joachim, we know it can withstand it, because it is JESUS strong.  We love St. Joachim community and we love our Church so very much.

Tell me about yourselves, work, hobbies or pastimes, traditions as a family, school…

There are 4 of us in our family: Tony, Kamelia and our two boys, Trent and Maury. After his family-owned business Coast Transmission, established in 1957 closed in 2018, Tony now works at a High Performance Vehicle Transmission shop. I, Kamelia, work at a Medical Device company for the last 18 years. Trent has his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and works at an Engineering Firm in Irvine. Maury has his AA degree and currently works at the USC Store looking for an opportunity in Sports Management. We enjoy having Sunday dinner every week together as a family. Tony and I love going shopping, watching TV, traveling and just spending time together, with friends and family.  One thing we do when on vacation is to visit sporting venues, i.e., basketball, football arenas. Most of all, we like to spend time together and create memories.

What difference does faith make in each of your lives?

Tony has been a lifelong Catholic, while I, Kamelia, went through the RCIA program 24 years ago. That completely changed my life and brought me into an amazing relationship with Jesus Christ. Since then, there is a strength greater than me that can be relied on knowing that whatever is going on, there is no need to worry, He will care for us. He will supply our needs as long as we rely on Him. When we have the most issues in our lives, we have found, we are relying on our strength and not the Lord’s.  Through our marriage, we have truly seen God’s miracles at work and we are so very thankful to Him for His grace, favor and blessings. Without Him we would be nothing. In turn, we hope that we can be of help to His Kingdom.

In Christ,

Rev. Robert P. Capone
