The Lord Jesus is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!
I pray the discipline of Lent and the grace of the last forty days blossom forth for you in joy as we celebrate the glory of the Resurrection for the next fifty days. The Great Easter Vigil is the summit of our liturgical year and retraces salvation history through the book of Genesis to the Gospel according to John, from Creation through the Incarnation of Jesus and the redemption he won for us to the sanctification of the Holy Spirit and the New Creation.
Many joined our community of faith last night as they received the Sacraments of Christian Initiation after months of preparation. They, and each one of us, has a part to play in salvation history. In the words of one of my favorite Easter songs, “If you cannot preach like Peter, if you cannot pray like Paul, you can tell the love of Jesus and say, “He died for all.” Indeed, the Balm of Gilead is felt among us when the sweet smell of the Sacred Chrism anoints us with the strength and consolation of the Holy Spirit. May each of us have both the docility and courage to be missionary disciples of Jesus, of he who died and rose for us.
In Christ,
