A Pastor’s Hopes

Currently, the pastor’s postcard is featuring articles on what we hope for and what brings us hope.

Besides interviewing parishioners, I thought I would contribute as well.

Members of our faith community who know and heed the voice of Jesus bring me hope. They respond to the call to ministry, using their spiritual gifts for the benefit of our parish. They are your brothers and sisters who serve as ministers of hospitality or the eucharist. They are your brothers and sisters who gather on Saturday morning to serve the poorest among us at Saint Vincent de Paul or gather for fraternity and works of charity as Knights of Columbus. They are your brothers and sisters who serve as catechists for our youth and adults, bringing the joy of believing to others. These faithful servants doing ministry in our parish fill me with hope.

Some describe hope as our faith projected into the future. Another source of hope for me are those young people who hear the call to marriage or priesthood and make a commitment to God, the Church and one another. A couple preparing for marriage have a trust in each other that they hope will endure for the rest of their lives. They are witnesses to hope. A young man who heeds the call of Jesus to follow him as a priest places his trust in him and becomes a source of hope for us all.

Thank you for joining me in praying for vocations to the priesthood and religious life the third Sunday of each month.

In Christ,

Rev. Robert P. Capone
